Guided by Daniel Wallach, Greensburg, Kansas is America's first sustainable community. Devastated by an EF-Scale level five tornado--the most destructive kind--in May 2007, Greensburg lost ninety-five percent of its infrastructure. Tragedy did not stop the people of Greensburg, however, and they rebuilt their town to reflect its name: Greensburg became America's first Green Town.

Now Wallach with his particular expertise and vision presents an active plan to rebuild America. The transformation of Greensburg, Kansas is sustainable in every way, from housing and construction, to community and open spaces, to energy and infrastructure. Thomas Fox is a graduate of Fordham University and Fordham University School of Law. An early experience working at Hargrave Vineyard (now Castello di Borghese), Long Island's pioneer winery, awakened in him an appreciation of the shared health of plants, animals, humans, and ecosystems. A former research editor at Reader's Digest, Fox has been published in The Washington Post, Wine Enthusiast, The Christian Science Monitor, and elsewhere. Fox lives with his family in New Jersey, where he is a passionate gardener and sometime urban farmer.

Daniel Wallach is the director of Greensburg Greentown. Before moving to Kansas, he co-founded the Colorado Association of Nonprofit Organizations, which is now known as the Colorado Nonprofit Association. Daniel developed many innovative programs in the five years he led that organization, in addition to his active role in the development of the national nonprofit associations movement. Daniel has developed several businesses and nonprofit organizations throughout his career. In 2004 he started a natural and local foods co-op in Pratt, Kansas, that served two dozen Pratt and Greensburg families for two years.
