As the executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference from 1964 to 1970, Andrew Young was an ally of Martin Luther King, Jr. during the Civil Rights struggles of the 1960s and in fact was at his side at the moment he was assassinated. In this memoir, he describes his early life and reflects on his experiences with the Civil Rights movement. The memoir ends in 1972 and thus does not cover Young's congressional career or his later stints as Mayor of Atlanta, Georgia and US Ambassador to the United Nations. 作者簡介
Andrew Young was born in New Orleans in 1932. In 1960, he joined the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He served as its executive director from 1964 to 1970. He was elected to three terms in Congress and two terms as Mayor of Atlanta, Georgia. He was the first African American to be appointed U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
