With both traditional and newly composed music and material from other content areas, each ready-to-use lesson plan has an interdisciplinary approach to teaching multicultural music. Intended for use in general music classrooms, the lessons encourage collaboration with teachers of other subjects but can also effectively be taught solely by music teachers.

Based on the National Standards for music and other subject areas and intended for grades 4-8, each lesson can be adapted for younger or older students with suggested extensions and materials. DEBORAH ALANE CUNNINGHAM is a choral and general music educator at Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School in Jamesville, New York, affiliate artist in music education at Syracuse University, and associate director of the Syracuse Children's Chorus. She is active as a workshop clinician and guest conductor throughout the United States and is past president of the Greater Rochester American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
