Neurolinguistic and Psycholinguistic Perspectives on SLA

Neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics are providing insights into the processes governing language acquisition, functioning, and production. The editors (U. of Silesia, Poland) introduce a dozen chapters by multidisciplinary, international contributors who discuss foreign language and second language acquisition from these perspectives. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have shed light on the critical period hypothesis and added to debates over the basis of developmental dyslexia. Psycholinguistic studies focus on topics including bilingualism, connectionist and enactivist theories of cognition in understanding the process of practicing writing, gender differences in reading achievement in native and foreign languages, the link between affect and strategic competence, and education language communities. Janusz Arabski and Adam Wojtaszek both work at the University of Silesia, Poland. Their research interests include psycholinguistics, language acquisition and linguistic pragmatics. They have invited twelve researchers and practitioners in neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics to contribute papers reporting on their recent studies related to the processes of language acquisition. The editors and the contributing authors are active members of many scientific committees and organizations devoted to the investigation of language acquisition processes, they regularly participate in many conferences and publish extensively. The author list comprises experienced scholars as well as young researchers.
