Health Inequalities in Japan: An Empirical Study of Older People

Social scientists profile Japan's older population using findings from a large-scale survey that targeted over 30,000 people, summarizing the research findings on a range of health measures and their relationship with socioeconomic factors such as income and educational attainment. The topics include self-rated health status and depression, sense of coherence as stress-coping ability, marital status and health, social support, employment status and financial insecurity, and a community perspective on social capital and health.
