Multiple Sclerosis

Over 450,000 individuals in the United States have multiple sclerosis. A diagnosis of multiple sclerosis poses potential concerns related to all aspects of life and plans for the future. One of the first responses is usually an active search for information about the disease itself and its potential long-term effects. What Nurses Know . . . Multiple Sclerosis answers all of those questions and more. Carol Saunders has been an MS nurse and educator for over 25 years, and throughout all of it, she has learned what people need to know and how effectively to communicate it. With education and proper care, most people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis will lead full and productive lives. Carol Saunders, BA, BSN, MSCN, was the Director of Patient Care at the Neurology Center of Fairfax, Virginia. She has been a member of the Consortium of MS Centers since 1990, and a member of the International Organization of MS Nurses since its founding in 1997. Carol formerly served on the Professional Advisory Committee and Chapter Services Committee of the National Capital Area Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) and was a cofounder of the Greater Washington, DC, area Consortium of MS Nurses. She has been a member of the NMSS since 1993 and in 1998 was honored as the NMSS Volunteer of the Year. She has been a nurse for 25 years specializing in MS issues.
