The Papers Of George Washington

In the 14th volume of the Presidential Series, Editor Hoth and 21 additional editors offer transcriptions of the papers and letters of George Washington from September 1-December 31, 1793. At the time, Washington and his administration were occupied with preserving the neutrality of the United States. The letters address issues such as French privateers in American waters, British complaints regarding seizure of British ships, and French forays into Spanish Florida and Louisiana. Other topics include preparations for Washington's annual message, frontier defense, and British retention of northwestern forts.
