Grammar to Go

In this grammar and punctuation workbook, Goldstein (Hillsborough Community College) offers a new, interactive approach to sentence diagramming, minimizing memorization of rules and instead emphasizing hands-on exercises that allow students to visualize relationships among sentence parts. Part 1 covers grammar basics, from parts of speech through sentence patterns, verbal phrases, word order variation, clauses, and types of sentences. In Part 2, students put the basics to work as they deal with fragments and run-ons, punctuation, pronoun use, agreement, modifiers, and sentence coherence. The book contains numerous practice exercises, self-tests with answers, exercises based on readings, and writing exercises. A companion website contains PowerPoint lectures narrated by the author. An instructor's manual with answers and teaching suggestions is available. This fourth edition offers a new feature on common errors in speech, and the companion web site provides more instructions on advanced sentence diagramming.
