Handbook of Pattern Recognition and Computer Vision

This 2010 handbook is identified as a fourth edition, but it's actually a completely new work and is the fourth in a series of handbooks published in 1993, 1999, and 2005. The 33 chapters are all new. Arrangement in five thematic sections is similar to earlier volumes: basic methods in pattern recognition, basic methods in computer vision and image processing, recognition applications, computer vision and pattern recognition in life sciences and human ID, and systems and technology. A sampling of topics: dissimilarity embedding of graphs in vector spaces, a region tree based image discrete labeling framework, a comprehensive survey of word spotting techniques in document analysis and retrieval, computational intelligence approaches for protein fold recognition, and dual energy computed tomography for checked baggage screening. The tables of contents of the earlier volumes are included in the front matter. Editor Chen is affiliated with the U. of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
