商品簡介
When a delegation of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom traveled to Haiti in 1926 to study its occupation by the US, the WILPF represented a new alliance of white women peace activists and black women social reformers. Highlighting chapters in Baltimore, Cleveland, and Philadelphia, Plastas (women and gender studies, Bates College, Maine) traces the organization's history dating from its protest of America's entry into World War I, philosophy, prominent members, and role of this "band of noble women" in setting the stage for the civil rights movement and women's efforts toward global disarmament. Photos feature WILPF members in the early decades of the 20th century. Annotation c2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
