Exercise Testing and Prescription

Each easy-to-follow lab in this manual includes background information, step-by-step procedures, discussion questions, and a bibliography. Part 1 offers an orientation to lab instruments and procedures, instructions for calibrating instruments, and information on risk factor evaluation, medical history, and informed consent. Part 2 offers seven labs on exercise testing, and part 3 offers four labs on exercise prescription. About 50 pages of appendices provide forms, data collection worksheets, and references on medication side effects, plus an answer key for the lab on metabolic calculations. This second edition is updated to reflect the eighth edition of the ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription. Enhanced discussion questions in each lab demand more in-depth analysis. The lab manual can be used as a supplement in undergraduate courses preparing students to take the ACSM Health Fitness Specialist certification exam, and as an experiential component for a course in exercise testing and prescription.
