Cultural Globalization and Music

From the introduction: "This is a book about South-North, North-South relations between Africa and Europe, seen through the alternative prism of artists from North Africa (mainly Morocco and Algeria) and Madagascar, and of their complex networks within and across African, European and wider global spaces...." The authors emphasize that their investigation of migration is distinguished by analysis of the sending nations as well as the receiving nations and by its incorporation of a new theoretical concept they term transcultural capital theory. Nadia Kiwan (French and Francophone studies, U. of Aberdeen, UK) and Ulrike Hanna Meinhof (transnational studies, U. of Southampton, UK) have collaborated to collect personal narratives of musicians and to view them in a broad context.
