The Artist as Citizen is a compilation of Joseph W. Polisi's articles and speeches from his two-decade tenure as president of New York City's prestigious Juilliard School. Joseph W. Polisi became the sixth president of the Juilliard School in September 1984. Previously, he was the dean of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the dean of faculty at the Manhattan School of Music, and executive officer of the Yale University School of Music.
