Online Territories

The editors (professors of media and communication studies at Karlstad U. and Uppsala U., Sweden) present an anthology of 14 papers that theorize--from a range of interdisciplinary perspectives--social space, communicative practice, mediation, and the Internet in thematic relation to the "everyday," the "civic" and the "public," and the "transnational/translocal." Examples of specific topics include the place of online pornography in the American home; Iraq, YouTube, and everyday spectacle; Internet gambling and domestic space; identity and surveillance in online space; social movement web use; online challenges to commercial music market-makers; diaspora, mediated communication, and space; mediated networking and social control in expatriate spaces; and representations of diasporic-ethnic identities on the web.
