Sapiential Perspectives ─ Wisdom Literature in Light of the Dead Sea Scrolls : Proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium of the Orion Center for the Study of the Dead

Nine papers selected from the May 2001 symposium held in Jerusalem focus primarily on the wisdom texts from Qumran that have been fully edited only in recent years, 1q/4QInstruction and 1Q/4QMysteries , though other texts from the corpus are treated parenthetically. They are concerned with placing the texts in historical perspective. The topics include wisdom literature and its relation to other genres from Ben Sira to Mysteries , the milieus of origin, Halakhic elements in the texts, the categories of rich and poor, the Book of Hagu , the 4QTime of Righteousness in context, and whether there was a common ethic in Second Temple Judaism.
