ALFRED S. BRADFORD is John Saxon Professor of Ancient History at the University of Oklahoma. He earned his Ph.D. in classical languages and literatures from the University of Chicago. Professor Bradford was a research assistant at the Institute for Advanced Study for six years and became a member in 1990. He is the author of A Prosopography of Lacedaemonians from the Death of Alexander the Great, 323 B.C., to the Sack of Sparta by Alaric, A.D. 396.
