Clement of Alexandria: A Project of Christian Perfection

One of the early Christian philosopher/theologians, Clement of Alexandria (c.150-215) was probably a Greek who became a Christian as an adult. His work shows a thorough knowledge of Platonic teachings. Ashwin-Siejkowski, who is both and Anglican priest and a lecturer in patristic studies at the University of Chichester UK, focuses on Clement's concept of human ability to attain spiritual perfection. Using this theme, he demonstrates Clement's understanding of Hellenistic Judaism as well as Greek philosophy. Clement brought a positive view of Jewish thought to his work and integrated it into his theology. Ashwin-Siejkowski also outlines Clements experience with Egyptian Gnostic beliefs, stating that he also viewed these without bias, taking what seemed logical to him.
