International Environmental Law

This text for students and practitioners offers an analysis of international environmental law in the context of global environmental problems such as climate change, and in the context of public international law in general. After a historical review, the text offers material on key concepts, such as sustainable development, and key issues, such as biological diversity. The section on governance looks at treaty-making, stand-setting, compliance, liability, and dispute settlement. Later chapters consider the relationship between environmental law and other areas of international law, such as human rights, international security, and economic law. The text's final section offers ideas for overcoming the North-South divide and enhancing global environmental cooperation. Beyerlin is affiliated with University of Heidelberg.
