Cardiorenal Syndromes in Critical Care

Ronco (nephrology, dialysis and transplantation, International Renal Research Institute, Vincenza, Italy) et al. present the proceedings of the 2010 International Vincenza Course on Critical Care Nephrology, which focused on cardiorenal syndromes and the multidisciplinary collaboration between cardiology and nephrology. In the 29 papers, faculty from the course address the different varieties and subtypes of the cardiorenal syndrome, their epidemiology, management, and prevention; multiple organ dysfunction syndromes; fluid assessment and management in the critically ill; critical care issues; the results of the most recent Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative Consensus Conference; new diagnostic approaches based on early biomarkers of acute kidney injury; advances in technology for renal replacement therapy and multiple organ support therapy; the potential role of extracorporeal therapies in patients affected by H1N1 influenza; and the most recent trials.
