Trust ─ Comparative Perspectives

Sasaki (sociology, Chuo U., Japan) and Marsh (sociology, Brown U., US) present 12 sociological studies of trust. Papers examine the relationship between ethnic-racial diversity and levels of generalized trust, social positions and dispositions related to interpersonal trust, the ways parents shape the generalized trust of their children, trust as a precaution against and cause of vulnerability, the psychology of trust in Korea, a social interactionist theory of the self in trust relationships, and comparative differences of trust in the national character. Ten of the 12 contributions were originally presented in special issues of the journal Comparative Sociology (Vol. 10, Issues 2 and 3, 2011).
