In this guide meant for self-study or use in a course, Cook, a bass guitarist and Pro Tools teacher at American River College, introduces readers with little Pro Tools experience to Pro Tools 10. He covers the basic principles needed to complete a project from initial setup to final mixdown. He focuses on using the software in a digital audio recording and production environment and assumes basic understanding of recording techniques, processes, and equipment, such as mixing techniques, mixer signal flow, audio monitoring equipment, and MIDI devices. Through lessons and exercises, he details background information on Pro Tools and audio production, including the concepts of digital audio, hardware configurations, session file structures, and the user interface and tool set; information and instructions for working with sessions to accomplish common audio production tasks, including creating sessions and audio and MIDI recordings, navigating within audio and MIDI recordings, and editing and mixing; applying concepts to two projects; and additional projects meant to be completed in a Pro Tools course.
