Early Modern Women on the Fall:—An Anthology

English scholars Dowd (U. of North Carolina-Greensboro) and Festa (State U. of New York-New Paltz) have collected short works and excerpts of longer works written by women in early modern England that engage with the specific discourse of the biblical Fall in order to address other discourses at the center of early modern society. They include Dorothy Leigh's The Mother's Blessing, Poets Have Most Pleasure in this Life from Margaret Cavendish's Poems and Fancies, Bathsua Makin's An Essay to Revive the Ancient Education of Gentlewomen, Mary Astell's A Serious Proposal to the Ladies, and Lady Mark Chudleigh's The Ladies' Defense.
