The Sage Handbook of Interview Research

Social scientists offer a reference and a textbook for a graduate seminar on using interviews in research. Though they include traditional approaches--for example the strict roles of interviewer and interviewee--they emphasize the newer dynamic, interactional, reflexive, and complexity dimensions that are emerging as researchers increasingly frame the interview as a communicative opportunity as much as a data-gathering format. The themes are interviewing in context, methods of interviewing, logistics of interviewing, the self and the other in the interview, analytic strategies, ethics of the interview, and critical reflections.
