Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a minimally invasive technique used in assessment and staging of gastrointestinal diseases. This book is designed as a textbook and an atlas on all aspects of EUS for medical students and professionals in gastroenterology, pneumology, and surgery. The second edition covers new techniques and places information about EUS into general clinical algorithms, making it more useful to non-specialist medical professionals. New techniques of real-time elastography and contrast-enhanced, low-mechanical-index EUS, are presented and the text offers an overview of devices and materials currently available. Over 1,000 color and b&w images and photos support the text. Early chapters review basics of radial endoscopic ultrasound and longitudinal EUS anatomy, look at software-based training, and give advice on how to choose among devices. The second section covers general issues of diagnostic imaging and interventions, with material on equipment, techniques, indications, troubleshooting, and clinical impact for EUS-guided biopsy. This section includes tips on cytological examination, specimen handling, and staining. Sections on the gastrointestinal tract and the lung and mediastinum review anatomy and describe EUS techniques for various conditions and body regions. The DVD contains video examples.
