The Eudemian Ethics on the Voluntary, Friendship, and Luck—The Sixth S.V. Keeling Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy

This collection of five chapter-length essays focuses on Aristotle's less well known Eudemian Ethics and explores topics of the voluntary, friendship and pleasure. They consider the requirements of agency Aristotle imposes for voluntary choices, three difference kinds of frienship Aristotle outlines (useful, pleasurable, and ethical), conflicting accounts of voluntary actions in the Eudemian and Nicomachean Ethics, how Aristotle's view of friendship is self-regarding with little room for altruism, the pleasure of thinking together, and on the connection or lack thereof between luck and eudaimonia. The essays are annotated with foot-notes and both a general and citation index appears in the back.
