Epidemic Encounters

Of interest to students of the history of medicine, this collection of nine essays on the influenza epidemic of 1918 examines the effects of the worldwide outbreak on Canadian society. Topics discussed include public responses to the pandemic in Canada, the demographics of illness and factors in contagion and outcomes, the epidemic as a window into the limits of modernity at the start of the twentieth century, and lessons and correlations between the influenza epidemic and contemporary national and international public health emergencies.
