This work collects journal articles and book chapters published since 1986, written by Aldrich (sociology, U. of North Carolina-Chapel Hill) alone or with co-authors. An introductory essay explains the essentials of Aldrich's evolutionary approach to entrepreneurship. The readings are grouped in sections on the role of comparative analysis in evolutionary theory as applied to entrepreneurship; social networks, especially as they affect the genesis of entrepreneurial teams; strategic approaches to the creation of new organizational populations; gender and family issues related to entrepreneurship; and implications of entrepreneurship for stratification and inequality in modern societies. Some specific topics are ethnicity and entrepreneurship, the neglect of women business owners by scholarly journals, and the impact of financial, human, and cultural capital on entrepreneurial entry in the US.
