A Companion to the Philosophy of Robert Kilwardby

Brill's Companions to the Christian Tradition is a series of handbooks and reference works on the intellectual and religious life of Europe, 500-1800. This 37th volume in that series arose from a small conference at Cambridge U. in 2005. It is devoted to a prominent figure in the 13th century, Robert Kilwardby, whose philosophical writings have not received an appropriate amount of scholarly attention, according to editors Lagerlund (philosophy, U. of Western Ontario, Canada) and Thom (honorary professor, Sydney U.). Nine contributions address Kilwardy on grammar, semantics and ontology, syllogistic form, the Aristotelian theory of science, time, matter, the soul and epistemology, ethics, and the division of sciences. Henrik Lagerlund, Ph.D. (Philosophy, Uppsala University 1999) is Associate Professor at the University of Western Ontario. He has written extensively on medieval philosophy.Paul Thom B.Phil. (Philosophy, Oxford University 1967) is Honorary Professor at Sydney University. His study of Kilwardby’s commentary on the Prior Analytics (Logic and Ontology in the Syllogistic of Robert Kilwardby)is to be followed by an edition of the commentary.Contributors include: Henrik Lagerlund, Paul Thom, Anthony Celano, Alessandro D.
