Beyond a Divided Cyprus

Nicos Trimikliniotis is an interdisciplinary scholar working in the fields of sociology and law. He is an associate professor of Law and Sociology at the University of Nicosia and a senior research consultant at PRIO Cyprus Centre. He has researched widely on human rights, discrimination, migration, gender, reconciliation, ethnic conflict, racism, constitutional, education, and labor issues and has published several articles in books and journals. His latest works include The Nation-State Dialectic and the State of Exception (in Greek, 2010); Rethinking the Free Movement of Workers (co-edited with Paul Minderhoud, 2009); and Racism, Migration and Trade Unions in a Post-Tourist Society (in Greek, forthcoming).

Umut Bozkurt is a lecturer in the Department of International Relations, Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus. She completed her PhD in Politics at the University of York, UK. Her research interests are state theory, critical political economy, and the modern politics of Turkey and Cyprus. She worked as the co-country manager of the International Center for Transitional Justice's Cyprus program that aimed to help pave the way for the revision of the divisive historical narratives held by each side in Cyprus. Her latest works include "Rethinking Cypriot State Formations" (co-authored with Nicos Trimikliniotis, Cyprus Review) and a working paper titled "Cyprus: Learning from Others to Come to Terms with the Past " (co-authored with Christalla Yakinthou, Peace Research Institute of Oslo (PRIO) Cyprus, forthcoming).
