An Introduction to International Law

As the authors state in their preface, the underlying philosophy of this presentation is that "international law must be treated by domestic courts and executive organs in the same way as domestic law is applied and upheld." They offer an outline of sources, coverage of the responsibility of states, and discussion of territorial, personal, and functional limits on State jurisdiction. Conforti (emeritus, international law, and former Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, among other engagements) originally wrote this book based on a course he taught at the Hague Academy. It was published in 1988, and then, in 1993, in an English edition titled International Law and the Role of Domestic Legal systems. As a result of collaboration with co-author Labella, the presentation has been updated and refined, maintaining a focused and concise structure.
