Reformulating Russia ─ The Cultural and Intellectual Historiography of Russian First-Wave 卌igr?Writers

This is a revised version of the author's PhD thesis (U. of Bergen, Norway, 2009). He considers four works from the time period 1918-1940--by authors who grew up outside of what was to become the Soviet Union. These are works that Mjr describes as classics in the field of Russian studies and "...the first truly significant attempts by Russians themselves to describe Russian cultural and intellectual history." They are Saints of Ancient Russia by Georgii Fedotov, Ways of Russian Theology by Gerogii Florovskii, The Russian Idea by Nikolai Berdiaev, and the History of Russian Philosophy by Vasilii Zenkovskii. Kare Johan Mjor (b. 1973) holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bergen, Norway. The author of Desire, Death, and Imitation: Narrative Patterns in the Late Tolstoy (Slavica Bergensia 4), he has also published articles on Russian imperial historiography and Russian post-Soviet intellectual culture.
