Bird Migration

The second edition has been expanded to reflect recent studies in the field; a lengthy bibliography is included. Although the research studies used rely on figures of populations of migratory birds in Western Europe and Africa, the scholarly approach of the text ensures that it will also be an important resource in the Americas. Berthold introduces the study with chapters on the evolution, genetic basis, extent of bird migration, and the history of its study. The bulk of the text describes bird migration, the current methods for its study, the many types of migration known, and the physiological bases and control that allows migration to happen.
