Integrity Testing For Low-Pressure Membranes

This reference introduces both theoretical and practical aspects of integrity testing of low-pressure membranes in the context of drinking water filtration. Although certain portions of the book involve mathematical derivation of equations, the equations are used to describe the physical concepts. The book starts out with a historical perspective on membrane integrity testing in the drinking water industry, then gives background on testing and the rationale for it, and outlines important criteria of membrane integrity testing. After a review of types of membrane integrity testing, chapters cover testing based on fluid flow, testing based on monitoring filtrate quality, and other integrity testing and monitoring methods. These chapters explain how each testing method works and how it is applied. The book also gives advice for implementing an integrity verification and monitoring program in low-pressure membrane plants. Appendices give metric conversion factors, physical properties of water, and excerpts from USEPA's Membrane Filtration Guidance Manual.
