Energy Access, Poverty, and Development―The Governance of Small-Scale Renewable Energy in Developing Asia

Based on extensive field research, Sovacool (energy security and justice, Vermont Law School) and Drupady (public policy, National U. of Singapore) describe how small-scale renewable energy technologies are helping Asia respond to a daunting set of energy security challenges. They showcase ten renewable energy case studies that they have found most interesting over the past ten years, six of them successes and four of them failures. Among them are Grameen Shakti in Bangladesh, the Rural Electricity Access Project in Mongolia, the Energy Services Delivery Project in Sri Lanka, the Solar Home Systems Project in Indonesia, and the Teachers Solar Lighting Project in Papua New Guinea.
