課文B 美國的餐桌禮儀
餐桌禮儀的作用
今日在美國，一整套足以應付自如的餐桌禮儀已經不那么重要了。許多人家只是在節日家宴時才一起圍坐在餐桌旁。大多數餐館非常隨便，只要求基本文雅的餐桌禮儀，或者只允許有基本的文明禮節。倘若有位在一家小酒店用餐的食客將餐巾掉在了地上，需要用講究禮儀的方式來示意招待再拿一塊干凈的餐巾，他甚至可能索性不用餐巾了。如果他用眉毛微妙地抖動，或目光朝下眨動等方式來示意，他很可能只會使他的女友誤認為他在挑逗服務員。盡管嚴格的餐飲禮儀是不允許將用過的餐具放回桌子的，但服務員在收拾盤子時，會將那把朝11點方向擺放的叉子扔回原處，那啪嗒一聲比食客自己扔得還要響。
此類情況常常會發生——也許是洽談生意的飯局，高級餐館中戀人的約會，“意中人”家人的第一次宴請。——那就有必要展示一下餐桌禮節方面更高的素養。一旦你掌握了基本要領，這其實并不困難。不管誰，只要用核心知識武裝起來。又具備自如地適應具體情況的能力，就有辦法應對哪怕是最講究禮節的場面。
