Crazy quilting is a specific kind of patchwork (piecing). Irregularly shaped pieces of fabric are sewn together into a collage of textures and colors.
The style was popular in Colonial times when women sought to make use of every bit of fabric, recycling clothing to patch worn-out coverlets. In Victorian times the trend became more extravagant; women sewed bits of fancy fabrics—silk, velvet, and satin—into blocks, then into cov-erlets. The seams were decoratively embroidered; the whole piece was sometimes embellished with beads, lace, ribbon and buttons.
