Nazism, War And Genocide

Scholars from the US, the UK and Germany reflect here on their work on the history of nazism and its implications for the future. Their approach is that nazism's radical ideological drive permeated every part of German everyday life, but that drive came from a certain number of singularly ambitious and brutal men. Topics include a study of nazism as a political religion, political detention in concentration camps from 1955 to 1936, working-class identities, social outsiders, jurists and legal terror during the war, Slavs and the burden on work in rural Germany, the aftermath of Wannsee, Auschwitz in terms of memory, and the string of events and situations surrounding Hitler in 1940.
