Corpus Data Across Languages and Disciplines

The eighth biennial conference Practical Applications in Language and Computers was held in Lodz, Poland during 2011, and focused on the use of corpus tools and methodologies in a wide range of linguistic specialties. The 22 selected papers look at language teaching, historical linguistics, media and political discourse, grammar and phraseology, computational tools, and translation studies. Among specific topics are creating corpus-driven teaching and learning resources for secondary school grammar teaching, a parallel Latin-Old English corpus of biblical translations as a tool for word order studies, establishing affirmation modality as a valid grammatical category in Serbian through Internet-based research, in quest of a multi-purpose and multi-corpus service-based corpus research tool, and a corpus-driven comparison of translational and non-translational literary Polish.
