The Search for Security — A U.S. Grand Strategy for the Twenty-First Century

"As the country that most benefits from global integration," the United States must "maintain and enhance the new world order." So argue the editors (a team consisting of a retired U.S. ambassador, a former U.S. army colonel, and a professor of national security strategy at the U.S. Army War College) as they present the theoretical foundations for a "new National Security Strategy." The resultant framework relies heavily on neoliberal understandings of the global environment, calling for the U.S. to strengthen processes and institutions of neoliberal globalization, increased integration of national security agencies and "interalliance" organizations, and the creation of "legitimacy" among the leaders of other states.
