Oliver Impey (1936-2005) was Senior Curator in the Department of Eastern Art at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and Reader in Eastern Art at Oxford University. His research concentrated on the export arts of Japan from the late sixteenth to the early twentieth century, and on their effect in Europe. His publications include Chinoiserie. The Impact of Oriental Styles on Western Art and Decoration (1977);Porcelain for Palaces. The Fashion for Japan In Europe 1650-1750 (co-author, 1990);The Early Porcelain Kilns of Japan (1996); The Art of the Japanese Folding Screen (1997);Japanese Export Porcelain.
