This volume considers the effectiveness of comprehensive school reform and its impact and outcomes. Aladjem (American Institutes for Research) and Borman (anthropology, U. of South Florida) bring together 11 chapters by education scholars and researchers (mostly from the US) who trace the history of reform, types of policy decisions made by state agencies, and how reform works with the No Child Left Behind Act. Other subjects treated are district and school implementation, types of models and how schools choose them, educational partnerships, and instructional practices. Chapters also describe research to evaluate student achievement conducted under the National Longitudinal Evaluation of Comprehensive School Reform, in addition to an initiative by the Gates Foundation and other studies.
