商品簡介
This collection, edited by Burriss (Appalachian studies, Radford U.) and Gantt (English, Utah State U.), aims to answer the question of how educators teaching Appalachian studies in the classroom "avoid essentialism and essentialist thinking while still acknowledging that a distinct region and culture exist" by exploring different teaching strategies and topic areas and sometimes by problematizing the categorization of Appalachia and Appalachian studies. The volume's 14 chapters are grouped in thematic sections devoted to: creative teaching of Appalachian history, Appalachian literature and folktales in and out of the classroom, the novel in Appalachia, and Appalachian poetry and prose.
