The provenance, influences for its illuminations, and possible artist's heritage are some of the puzzles examined in this beautifully illustrated study of the 14th-century Egerton Genesis. Joslin (formerly of Saint Augustine's College, Raleigh, North Carolina) and Watson (art history, Furman U., Greenville, South Carolina) proceed with great deliberation through issues of the manuscript's provenance, its textual sources, the iconography of its miniatures, and the Flemish origins and stylistic development of the artist. The arrangement of figures and choice of scenes in the miniatures are linked to representations found in contemporary dramas.
