作者簡介

General Stefan “Starba” Baluk, born 1914 in Warsaw, Poland, fought with distinction in the Polish Army throughout World War II. He was one of the elite cichociemni, the “unseen and silent” commandos who were trained in Britain and parachuted back into Poland to serve with the Underground. Postwar, Baluk worked with clandestine anti-communist resistance organizations until he was arrested and sent to prison by the communists. He has received many decorations, including Poland’s highest military honor, the Virtuti Militari. Now retired from a career as a professional photographer, Baluk has authored several illustrated books and exhibits. “Starba” was Baluk’s best-known nom de guerre during his Underground work, and one by which the General is still known.
