In Abortion - A Worldwide Perspective, Colin Francome and Marcel Vekemans consider the evidence of 82 countries, covering over 90 per cent of the women in the world. They show that unsafe abortion is largely a problem of poverty. Women in rich countries can generally have safe abortions locally or travel to countries where abortion is safe. In contrast, poor people have to face the often tragic consequences of abortions occurring outside safe legal health services.
