Stalingrad ― The Death of the German Sixth Army on the Volga, 1942-1943

Retired US Colonel, French L. MacLean, presents a detailed account of the fall of the German Sixth Army during the failed siege of Stalingrad. The two-volume set recalls day by day troop movements and other actions of both Axis and Allied forces. It is fairly focused on this specific layer of military intelligence and not a broader account of military actions in a historical context. Each new day includes a section with notes about weather, sunrise and sunset times, and even moon phase and corresponding night-time illumination conditions. Scores of photos and maps appear with informative captions. Final sections in the second book start to indicate fallen military units with red letters, as well as describe the conditions of prisoners of war and other remaining troop bodies after the official end of the siege.
