Decentering Social Theory

This volume of a peer-reviewed journal continues the arguments of the series' previous volume, Postcolonial Sociology. The collected essays and empirical studies discuss the importance of overcoming the limitations of social theory and research's traditional Eurocentric perspective. Seven of the book's contributors are working in the US, one is in India, and one is in Australia. Part 1 contains two research articles, while Part 2 contains two essays on decolonizing sociology. Topics in these sections include Orientalist-Euroecentric framing of sociology in India, and peasants and nation-state rule in the Albanian Highlands 1919-39. Part 3 contains five essays in conversation with each other, discussing Raewyn Connell's book Southern Theory, which deals with the inequality of social science production.
