Seed Dispersal and Frugivory

Responding to growing suspicion that the principles used to investigate interactions between plants and fruit-eating animals since such research began in the 1970s are ineffective or simplistic, an international symposium and workshop was called for August 2000 in Sao Pedro, Brazil to review those principles and discuss the future of the field. Researchers from many countries and working on diverse taxa participated, presenting 32 papers on historical and theoretical perspectives; plant strategies; animal strategies; consequences of seed dispersal; and conservation, biodiversity, and management.
