This is the first of an anticipated three-volume report on excavations carried out at the Roman era Egyptian temple of Shanur intermittently from 1992-2001 by a joint French-Belgian (later solely Belgian) team. The report contains chapters on methodology; the temple, its decoration, layout, preservation and function; the wabet (or "pure room") and its court; and the decoration of the gates. The texts on the temple and other walls are described in detail, with English translation included. The volume, which is oversized at 8.5x11.75", contains a catalogue of the 140 plates of b&w photos and two- color drawings, all of superb quality.
