His Holiness the Sixteenth Gyalwang Karmapa expressed his wish that Khenpo Karthar expressed his wish that Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche present Mountain Dharma in the West. In accordance with this wish, Rinpoche began teaching this text in 1999, at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD), in Woodstock, New York. The teachings too four years and were concluded in 2003. Born in East Tibet in 1924, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche is one of the great masters of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche, who received most of his training and education in Tibet before the Chinese invasion, is highly accomplished in meditation, philosophy, and monastic arts.

In 1976, at the request of the Sixteenth Karmapa, Rinpoche established Karma Triyana Dharmachakra to present the Karma Kagyu teachings and meditation practices to western students. The abbot of KTD and retreat master of Karme Ling Three-Year Retreat Center, Rinpoche has innumerable devoted students and retreatants with infinite generosity, compassion, and wisdom.

In addition to the five-volume Karma Chakine's Mountain Dharma, Rinpoche's published works include The Quintessence of the Union of Mahainudra and Dzokchen, Bardo: Interval of Possibility, Dharina Paths, The Instructions of Gampopa, and The Wish-Fulfilling Wheel.
